The Office of Policy and Management has today released the Request For Proposal for the Nonprofit Collaborative incentive Grant Program. You can access the RFP on either the Department of Administrative Services or the OPM website. Please note the link below. There is $5 million available and the proposal deadline is not until September 22nd. These funds are a result of a CT Nonprofits legislative initiative and are state bonding dollars. Bonding dollars are limited to capital purposes uses. Any nonprofit which collaborates with one or more other nonprofits is eligible. New Haven Shooting Victim Needs Help

Henry was shot on his way home from work back in February of this year. He has been fighting for his life ever since and it's increasingly looking like he's going to make it! He's most recently been in a rehab facility and they want to release him.....either to his own home or to a nursing home for an indefinite period of time. Unfortunately, the family's current home is not a viable option because it's a second floor apartment and Henry is wheelchair bound. They have found a suitable first floor option but need to raise $2100 by next Friday for Security. That's where I turn to the community. I kicked in the first $20. If enough people can painlessly do the same, this family's latest dilemma is solved. Click here for further information and to hopefully make a small donation through the Greater New Haven Help Alliance! Thank you and God Bless You!

The NHPD announced that they will start using the webservice nixle (http://www.nixle.com/) to send crime alerts. However, it seems like you can also sign up to the service as a non-profit and define a geographical area and people can sign up to that as a 'watch area' and get email events for alerts (events, meetings, etc.) in that area.

Here's a snip from the website:

Nixle is a Community Information Service dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you, depending on your physical location. You stay connected to your local police
department, your children’s schools, your local community agencies and
organizations, and the important information from other locations
throughout the country that are relevant to you. Our service is built
on the most secure, reliable, and high-speed distribution platform,
ensuring that you receive trusted and immediate, geographically
relevant information. Information is immediately available over your
cell phone by text message, by email, and over the web. Your account
can be customized so you receive the information that matters most to
you. Whether it is where you live, work, or have friends or family
throughout the country, the information is immediately available to you
over your mobile phone, email and computer.

This might be a good way for residents to stay in updated with events that happen in their immediate neighborhood, so I thought I'd share this information.

Out-of-school time (OST) programs represent a vital opportunity and resource for learning and development for children and youth. There is growing recognition that OST is important not just for elementary school students, whose parents need supervision for their children

when they are not in school, but also for middle and high school youth, whose participation in OST programs can help keep them connected to positive role models and engaged in their education at a time when many are beginning to disengage from schools.
