dae is excited to begin its fifth year as a cutting-edge, tuition-free after-school program designed to empower Connecticut public high school students with advanced training in coding, programming, IoT, cybersecurity, AI, web and video game design, and more. Located in the heart of Downtown New Haven, dae helps teens discover their path, advance their skills, and embark on the next step in college, career, or entrepreneurship, regardless of prior experience.

At dae, students immerse themselves in hands-on lessons led by veteran instructors, engaging in high-tech projects that strengthen skills and enhance future college or job applications. This isn’t regular school: students are working on projects from day one. Students can also enjoy free meals, build a new community of like-minded peers, and develop a comprehensive portfolio of work over a 10-month period.

“Technology continues to evolve, but we believe more importantly so must people. It’s crucial for young minds to be equipped with the toolkits needed to navigate and shape employment and interpersonal landscapes,” said A.M. Bhatt, founder of dae. “dae is dedicated to providing a supportive and innovative environment where students can thrive and build a foundation for their futures as game-changers and responsible global citizens.”

Due to increased charitable and grant support, this year each student will receive a $1,000 stipend upon the successful completion of the 10-month program, further acknowledging their dedication and achievements during their time at dae.

dae is currently accepting applications for our 6-Week Tech Creators Program! This program is open and cost-free to 9-12th graders who attend New Haven Public Schools. In the program students get hands on experience working on Web Development, Video Game Design and Internet-of-Things. They come away with completed projects that can easily be shared with college admissions offices and potential employers.

Our first session just started but students are still welcome to join! It will run until April 11th. Our second session will run from April 23rd until May 30th. We meet Tuesday-Thursday from 3:00-6:30pm. We are conveniently located at 770 Chapel Street in downtown New Haven (two blocks from the Green and central bus hub).

NH Student Transportation Survey

Help New Haven students collect data on school transportation. The students will use the data to propose ways to improve transportation and reduce climate and air pollution.  Take the 3 minute survey here.

Transportation is a crucial part of NHPS students’ lives but is also a major source of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions. These emissions contribute to global warming and air pollution, having many harmful effects on the environment and people's health. However, by using environmentally-friendly ways of transportation –such as walking, taking the school/city bus, and carpooling– we can make a positive impact! This is a change that the school district wants to see in the near future. By taking this survey, you will provide us with invaluable data, which we will use to create change in our school district. NHPS has extended the date for the submission of the Request For Qualifications (RFQ) application until 4:00pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. The extension is being implemented to provide organizations additional time to organize the requested supplemental documents and submit detailed information regarding their respective organizations.

The New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) is committed to strengthening the resources available for New Haven youth by bringing together, families, community, schools, peers,  government, neighbors and connecting and focusing these efforts so that they are collective, cumulative, consistent and effective. NHPS manages a variety of state and federal grants that support these goals, helping provide a wide range of services to our students and their families, and is currently reviewing the qualifications of potential partners to help carry out future grant funded initiatives or collaborate on district initiatives.

In August, the nightmares start.

Every teacher experiences the excitement, worry and sometimes dread as the first day of school approaches. It’s a combination of Christmas Eve and April 14.

The Rudd Center has just launched SPARK (Supporting Parent Advocates with Resources and Knowledge), a new website which offers advice, worksheets, definitions, studies, examples of successes, and lots of other information useful to parents who want to change the nutrition environment in their children’s schools.

Be a role model for youth who want to enter your career field! By taking part in New Haven Academy's Student Internship Program, you are improving the quality of high school education in the greater New Haven area. Your participation is sincerely appreciated.

 

The Internship Program is designed to allow students to intern full-time, Monday through Thursday, for three weeks (May 14th- May 31st). Each student is placed with a host organization based on their personal interest. By working with people who share similar interest, and who have professional experience in a given filed, the students have the opportunity to experience learning in a meaningful way.

 

Each potential host will have a chance to interview the potential student intern beforehand. This will give both the host and student a chance to get to know each other and help with the matching process.

 

Students will arrive at the host organization prepared with question and ideas about what they'll be learning during the internship. If you've never hosted a student before, you may find the following suggestions to be helpful guidelines:

 

  • Provide a tour of your workplace and describe the main purpose of what goes on there.

 

  • Share the personal side of how you developed your interest, or why you chose the work you do, and why it is important to you.

 

  • Demonstrate as much of your work as you can, rather than just talk about it.

 

  • Share what it is you do to stay current in your filed (professional development).

 

  • If you're in an organization with more people, let the student know how your work fits in with others in your organization, what role it plays in the organization and what other roles are needed to make your work successful.

 

  • Don’t be afraid to show them the fun side- laughing together is a greater equalizer.
