United Way is seeking a CAN Entry Coordinator who is passionate and organized to serve as the support that keeps CAN back-bone staff and community partners operating at their highest potential to ultimately end homelessness in our region.  This person will provide critical administrative and data management support to the Greater New Haven Coordinated Entry system, to ensure that progress is continually made towards meeting system goals. Salary is $40,000-$42,000/year and includes benefits.

 

What You Will Do

  • Support Coordinated Entry.

Coordinated Entry is the process of assessing and connecting households experiencing or at imminent risk of homelessness to resources and supports. You will assist the CAN Entry Manager in ensuring this process runs as efficiently as possible. This includes but is not limited to filling emergency shelter beds in a timely manner and covering assessment appointments whenever needed.

  • Provide support to monitor system performance and drive improvement.

If that statement gets you excited, keep reading. If not, this position may not be for you. This person will provide technical support to our Entry Manager. They will also monitor and maintain accurate lists for households seeking emergency shelter. The right candidate will be:

  • Skilled in viewing and analyzing data to provide suggestions for continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable with being client facing and fielding phone calls from clients who continue to need emergency shelter.
  • Support collaborative activities for the CAN.

Coordination and collaboration are key ingredients to the success of the CAN and reaching our goal of ending homelessness. As part of the United Way team, the CAN Entry Coordinator will assist in setting up committee meetings, and work with co-chairs to develop, circulate and distribute meeting materials. This position will also ensure transparency of the CAN by maintaining and updating CAN policies and procedures and other CAN documents.

  • You will work as part of a team.

You will work closely with every department at United Way. You will collaborate with our marketing team to tell the story of United Way to ensure that our community understands the work and impact of ending homelessness in our community. You will also maintain good working relationships with community, nonprofit and business leaders in the community. And of course, there will be other duties as assigned.

 

What You Need

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, including basic business writing skills and positive phone personality with active listening skills.
  • Ability to work independently, adjusting to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work with groups and balance multiple points of view.
  • Local and statewide travel is required; out of state travel as needed.
  • Experience working with various types of databases and content management systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CT HMIS is preferred.
  • Ability to develop visual presentations of data/metrics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the challenges and barriers that homeless people face is preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain high quality relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely for a broad audience.
  • Highly motivated and creative problem solver.
  • Ability to relate to people of different economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ability to be diplomatic when working with staff from other agencies and clients in crisis.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred with at least one year of similar experience; equivalent life experience may be substituted for education.
  • Preference given to bi-lingual, Spanish speaking applicants.

Two full-time positions opening at a fast-growing grassroots non-profit social enterprise in new Haven. Our mission is to build the refugee and immigrant women through job training, education, and organizing. 

Marketing Director:

We are seeking a driven, creative and knowledgeable marketing director to drive our mission, brand recognition, and sales into the next stage. We are a small but growing team - the position will involve a high degree of responsibility, ownership over the future of the organization, and opportunity for professional and personal growth. 

Reporting to the Development Director, the Marketing director will have overall responsibility for the development of Havenly’s brand using promotion and advertising strategies, including communications about its mission and work, digital marketing to increase sales, donor communications, and other lead generation strategies

Fellowship Director

The role of the Fellowship Director at Havenly is to plan and execute Havenly’s 6-month Community Café Fellowship, which runs twice per year (June – November and December – May) with 15 fellows per cohort. 

The key objectives of this fellowship are to:

  1. Build community. The fellowship provides space and time for immigrant and refugee women to build connection and solidarity across, language, nationality, religion, etc., and decrease social isolation.
  2. Build women’s sense of self-confidence and personal agency. 
  3. Support women in leaving survival jobs and entering longer term career paths.

We fulfill these goals by hosting a range of classes and workshops that fellows participate in for the first two months of each Fellowship, and by providing 4 months of on-the-job training at the Havenly cafe.

United Way of Greater New Haven Releases Workforce Development RFP

Applications due March 31, 2022

UWGNH is committed to helping all members of our community get on a path to financial stability. To achieve this goal, workforce development programs need to be able to address the unique needs of all job seekers. One way that agencies achieve this is through having access to unrestricted, flexible funds that can be used to enhance existing program dollars to help job seekers achieve better employment outcomes. This grant opportunity will provide flexible funds to existing workforce service providers. These funds can be utilized to remove barriers for job seekers to participate and complete trainings as well as secure and retain employment.

Examples include, but are not limited to: 

*Transportation

*Childcare expenses

*Stipends

*Technology needs

*Job search support

*Uniforms

*Other related work supports

Organizations that apply for these funds must have programs that support ALICE and below job seekers to achieve job attainment on a career pathway with demonstrated career mobility. Prioritization will be given for programs that have demonstrated the ability to successfully serve underserved communities such as but not limited to, communities of color, low-income, female head of households, re-entering individuals, individuals experiencing homelessness, immigrants, and people with disabilities.

Funding awards will range between $5,000 and $30,000.

For the purposes of this RFP, greater New Haven is defined as: Bethany, Branford, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, West Haven, and Woodbridge.

As you may know, the childcare system is Broken. Families pay too much, educators make too little and programs receive subsidy amounts that only cover 50% the true cost of care with subsidies that have not increased since 2015. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BE HEARD! Morning Without Childcare 

The entire economy rests on the shoulders of childcare and it is on the verge of collapse. If we want to have high-quality, affordable, safe and joyful care and education for our children we must change the way we pay for it. BE PRESENT TUESDAY, MARCH 15!

 

If the system continues to expect that a family of 4 earning $100,000 pays 40% on childcare costs, we will continue to lose workers. It makes more fiscal sense for a family member to leave the workforce than to work. SHARE YOUR FEELINGS FROM  8:00-9:00 AM ON THE NEW HAVEN GREEN!

 

If our industry continues to pay educators $13.25 per hour (on average) we will continue to have a workforce shortage. In Connecticut  there are currently 1,500 active postings for Early Childhood Educator and four out of five child care programs have staff vacancies. Trained, experienced educators can work at Amazon and make twice as much as they would caring for young children. WE MUST STOP PAYING WOMEN TO LIVE IN POVERTY!

 

If we expect programs to achieve quality and pay educators a livable wage on subsidy rates that are at 50% the true cost of care and were last increased in 2015, we are making it impossible for them to survive. 62% of programs across the state are operating at a loss.   • Training and experience using Microsoft Office 365 products
  • Ability to travel to Partner sites in the Greater New Haven area

In accordance with organizational policies, this position requires a criminal background check as a condition of employment.  In accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, this position also requires a medical physical and proof of Covid-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.
