What story from your community, if hold and heard, might change others' perspectives and New Haven as a whole?
We want you to tell that story! Whether you have 3 or 30 people, we will come to you for a free 2-hour DRAMA Workshop where we will help you identify, clarify,and intensify that story, creating a piece of theater unique to your community that your group can perform.Then... ALL participating communities will come together on SUNDAY JUNE 10 at 3pm to perform their‘ mini-play for an afternoon of theater unlike any other! Then...audience and performers alike share a meal and engage in a mediated conversation inspired by the performances about how we as a unified community might address the many issues facing New Haven!
We are excited to think outside of the box and work with Elm Shakespeare and other community partners throughout New Haven to use theatrical storytelling and even the words of Shakespeare to raise issues important to all of us and broaden our city-wide perspectives so that New Haven can be more unified.We are a non-profit, by youth/for-youth, peer-to-peer training organization established in 1990 to prevent youth violence. For over 27 years, awe have specialized in training, prevention, and empowerment. One of our core beliefs is that youth communicate and learn best from their peers of similar age, racial and social status groups. Therefore, SNDH is committed to a Train-the-Youth-Trainer™ concept. Our aim is to prepare youth for a School-to-College-to-Career positive lifestyle transition. SNDH is known for its innovative, creative style. Survivin' N Da Hood (SNDH) uses the reality of built-in consequences to teach youth to think before they do something that cannot be changed or erased. SNDH provides behavior modification training in critical thinking skills and social skills for adults and youth. Our training offers answers to life's tough situations; shows how to improve deficient, negative behaviors; and provides more options for difficult decision-making.Founded in 1995, Elm Shakespeare Company has given the gift of Free Shakespeare to over half a million people in Edgerton Park. We strive to ignite a creative spark, bringing people together through Shakespeare to share their humanity and build community. We work to strengthen the already vibrant artistic and educational landscape of greater New Haven, through the highest quality professional performances coupled with rigorous and joyous education programs that enrich the diverse New Haven community. Our educational programs now serve 500 students a year and educational partners include Housing Authority of New Haven, Mauro Sheridan Interdisciplinary Middle School, Common Ground High School, Whitney Center and LEAP.
