It’s frightening in 2016 to hear a young woman in her teens or early twenties making excuses for her abuser by saying things such as:
¨ “My boyfriend is just crazy jealous. He does not want me to talk to anyone else.
¨ “He loses it when he thinks another boy is interested in me.”
¨ “I can’t go to the game with my friends because my boyfriend has to work; he will get mad if I go without him.” “Yes, he hits me, but he did not mean it.” He meant it. That’s Domestic Violence.
¨ If it starts in high school/college, it will most likely escalate. Get out of that relationship.
¨ Get HELP! Talk to a responsible and trusted adult who can provide guidance and support.
