Description Interest
New Haven Academy provides a rigorous education that prepares all students to succeed in college and become active citizens able to make informed decisions about their lives and their communities.

We work to build a racially, ethnically and economically diverse student body, provide individual attention for every student, and guide students through the difficult transition from middle school to high school.

New Haven Academy graduates will be independent thinkers who ask critical questions and who develop and defend their own ideas. In order to achieve this vision, New Haven Academy is a learning community in which all members - staff, students and parents - know each other well.

Nydia,

Welcome to GNH Community, glad to have you join us. You are now able to post information that you think will be of interest to other nonprofits, civic organizations, the people they serve or the general public. You may post calendared events on the events page, non-date specific information on the blog, pictures or video.

Check out the groups created by other members; this is a great place to meet people that share your interest and to ask specific questions. You may request to join as many groups as you wish or start a new group. The creator of a group sets the parameters for membership. If you have a question about a group, please write to the owner (the person who initiated the group).

If you have questions or suggestions as to how we can make GNH Community more useful please let me know.

GNH Community is funded by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.

Our 9th and 11th graders all present on the same day at the same time. Our 10th and 12th graders present…

Where Do Workers Living on Low Incomes Stand in the Post-Pandemic Economy?

An article in Politico looks at the gains and losses—actual and potential—for lower-wage workers in the current economic climate. Katrin Kark, LISC’s director of workforce innovations, who is quoted in the piece, cautions that increased wages don’t suffice to stabilize finances or create economic mobility across the board. “Higher entry wages alone aren’t enough to close…opportunity gaps,” she says.

CDFIs + Impact Investors: New Capital Markets Analysis Highlights Opportunities and Impact

LISC and Enterprise Community Partners have released a joint white paper that catalogs how CDFIs have engaged with the capital markets in recent years. In an accompanying blog, the authors explain why this data is so critical, as economic pressure affects the availability and cost of capital for high-impact community development efforts. "The goal is to help impact investors identify how and where they might put their capital to work and what expectations they should have for performance,” they write.
