Event Description

Yale Recycling and the Yale Office of Sustainability are delighted to invite you to this year’s Spring Salvage Donation Days Event. We take great pride in the opportunity to re-distribute the useful household items that Yale students have donated during their departure from campus this spring. Last year nearly $200,000 worth of goods were made available to the New Haven community through this effort.

All donated items are free to non-profit organizations, New Haven area schools and charitable organizations and the Yale community. Our warehouse will be “re-stocked” between donation days so our inventory will be just as good if not better on the second Donation Day.

Please take note:
Items will only be available for pick up during the designated Donation Day dates and times. No one will be allowed to visit the warehouse before this time, place “dibs” on items of interest, or gain access before 10:30 am on the donation days.
Donation Days are open to non-profits, New Haven area schools, charitable organizations and the Yale community only. Please bring business cards, letterhead or other documentation such as the IRS 501(c)(3) letter for your non-profit or a current Yale issued ID. If you will be sending patients or clients to pick up items for their own personal use please provide them with a letter to this effect, printed on your organization’s letterhead.
This invitation is for your organization. Please do not pass this invitation on to friends or other members of the general public. Please do not pass this invitation on to listserves or post it on any web sites, including those for non-profits. Last year’s inclusion of the general public created difficulties and reduced the availability of important items for non-profits.
If you know of other organizations that should be invited please let us know and we will include them in this and future announcements

Parking is limited. Please car pool.

If you plan to pick up large donations (ie. furniture) please bring a vehicle large enough to transport your items from our warehouse. We cannot hold items for you after the donation day.

Here is a list of items that have been available in the past. We cannot guarantee what we will have again this year given that we rely strictly on student donations. However, many of the following items are consistently available from year to year:

Living Resiliently: In the Wake of Hurricane Helene, LISC’s Sam Ruark Reflects

LISC’s new director of green initiatives is helping lead a groundbreaking effort to decarbonize the nation’s affordable housing and help low-income communities build resiliency in the face of the harmful impacts of climate change. Here, after personally weathering Hurricane Helene in the intentional “ecovillage” where he lives in North Carolina, Ruark paints a picture of what’s at stake, and how the planet and people can heal together.

Tiffany Durr Named President of LISC Fund Management

Durr has served as interim president of LFM since May and in that time has ushered in a series of new investors and project closings. "She understands how to connect with investors on questions of risk, return and impact as well as how to make connections with developers, community organizations and city leaders to generate the best possible outcomes,” said Michael Pugh, LISC president and CEO.

Power to the Changemakers: LISC’s Tatia Ash on Capacity Building with Respect

As capacity builders, we hope to help strengthen grassroots organizations so they can effectively—and independently—drive progress in their communities. To do that, argues LISC senior program officer Tatia Ash, we must not only guide but also listen deeply, show respect, and share power.
