Event Description

Please join us for the first in a series of lectures held in celebration of NHPT’s 50th Anniversary. Alan J. Plattus, Professor of Architecture and Urbanism, Yale University School of Architecture will present Preservation and the Fourth-Age American City: An Introduction to the Role of the Preservation Movement in the Development of New Haven.

Using New Haven as a key example, Professor Plattus will discuss changing approaches to historic preservation as an integral part of the transformation of American cities in recent years and highlight how preservation-based development has become increasingly prevalent in our thinking about cities, the way urban renewal was in its day.

A wine and cheese reception, beginning at 5:30 pm, will precede the lecture.

Alan Plattus is Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at the Yale University School of Architecture. He has an independent practice as an urban planning consultant and has lectured across the country and abroad on architectural theory, urban history and contemporary urbanism. He also founded and directs the Yale Urban Design Workshop, a community design center based at the School of Architecture that has pursued practice-based research on the form and function of neighborhoods, towns and regions, and has undertaken civic design projects in cities and towns throughout Connecticut.

Free and open to the public. Please pre-register by calling NHPT at (203) 562-5919 or by emailing info@nhpt.org.
