What does New Haven’s CitySeed, Blueberries and Mental Health all have in Common? The Hill Farmers Market at Connecticut Mental Health in New Haven, CT.
Based on the model of a Californian doctor bringing farmers markets to a hospital facility to meet the nutrional needs of low income patients, Kyle Pederson of CT Mental Health in conjunction with CitySeed - has created a similar model at the facilities location in the Hill. The farmers market is in a prime area in the New Haven’s diverse Hill Neighborhood, located next to Smilow Cancer Hospital and provides subsidized fruit and vegetable shares to its clients, of which the low income population are a majority.
The Farmers market at CCMH has been extremely successful since opening up with 3 local CT farms participating; Hingdinger, George Hall and Cecarelli, It has also recently become an additional platform for the Hillhouse Opera Company and the Arts Council of Greater New Haven for events and projects bridging arts, involvement and access to those involved within the mental health community.
The Market runs on Fridays, 12-4 until September 24th. Who knows what Creative Surprises may occur, but its been confirmed there will be plenty of Blueberries (if they haven’t sold out) for Mental Health and Creativity (wink-wink) at the Hill Farmer’s Market on Friday August 20th, at 12:30pm
