OPPORTUNITY: Tent for Nonprofits at Arts & Ideas

Dear New Haven Nonprofits,

We are once again creating an opportunity to spread the word about how fabulous and important New Haven’s nonprofits are at the International Festival of Arts & Ideas.  See the details below.  There are 2 ways your organization can be involved.

  1. Make a 2 foot by 2 foot display about your organization to be hung in the tent.
  2. Volunteer for a shift at the tent – educating people about the impact of nonprofits to our community (talking points will be provided).

NOTE:  Space for displays is limited, so preference will be given for organizations who also sign up to volunteer at the Tent.

PS: Please forward, and we apologize for multiple postings, but this is time sensitive.

WHAT

The International Festival will provide a tent on the New Haven Green that will contain 2' x 2' displays created by New Haven area nonprofits showcasing their work. This tent emulates the “I Love Greater New Haven Nonprofits” Storefront, which took place at the Grove during the 2010 Holidays. In the tent, visitors will learn about the great diversity of impact by nonprofits, share how nonprofits have impacted their lives, and also connect to giving and volunteering opportunities via a laptop connected to GNH Community website.

WHY

1. To increase public awareness of the many nonprofit organizations in Greater New Haven.
2. To increase awareness and appreciation of the many ways in which nonprofits contribute to the well-being of the community. Most people are aware that nonprofits provide a lot of intangibles: enhancing the quality of life for its citizens through arts, cultural and educational institutions. They are also aware that nonprofits care for those in need -- through hospitals and human services organizations. However, far fewer people consider the many ways in which nonprofits contribute to the economic vitality of the communities in which they have a presence: as employers, and purchasers of services, whose employees purchase homes, cars, food, clothing, etc.

3.  To provide an opportunity for community members to access the services provided by area nonprofit organizations, through area websites that access services, volunteer opportunities, employment and philanthropy.

Who Is Putting This Together?

The Tent is a collaboration between The I love Greater New Haven Nonprofits Campaign, Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, and you.
