New Haven Healthy Start is a program that helps pregnant women and mothers deliver healthy and happy babies. Its primary goal is to reduce the infant mortality and morbidity rate in the City of New Haven. The program was awarded a fourth round of federal funding in 2009 to:
help reduce New Haven’s remaining health disparity in infant mortality;
increase its emphasis on multi-pronged outreach strategy;
strengthen connections with new community resources;
enhance case management capabilities for working with women at high-risk of poor birth outcomes. (Special outreach will be made to teens, the homeless, and those who lack insurance coverage and who have had previous poor birth outcomes).

Justice for George Floyd

The historic murder and manslaughter convictions of Derek Chauvin are a welcome signal of justice for George Floyd, for Black communities long victimized by police violence, and for everyone who wants to live in an authentically safe, just and equitable America. The work of building an anti-racist justice system and healing communities, though, has far to go. LISC is committed to it for the long haul.

A Letter to the White House Announces $11 Million Vaccine Access Fund

In a letter to the Biden-Harris Administration, which has called for corporate America to help in the fight to end the pandemic, the CEOs of Uber, Paypal, Walgreens and LISC announced a new Vaccine Access Fund that will connect people with free rides to COVID-19 vaccine sites. LISC will administer the fund, helping close the gap for thousands of people, many of them seniors and others living in under-resourced communities, who have not been vaccinated yet because of lack of transportation.
