New Job Opportunity: Program Director for Adult Education & Community Outreach

PROGRAM DIRECTOR FOR ADULT EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH

 

 

JUNTA seeks a full time Program Director for Adult Education and Community Outreach.  The Program Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of all morning and evening courses, and all initiatives under the program. The Director plans, coordinates, implements, and administers programs and services related to our Adult Education programs, while supporting the mission and vision of Junta for Progressive Action.  JUNTA’s Adult  Education Program currently includes English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) in English and Spanish, Basic Literacy in Spanish and a health literacy initiative.

 

Essential job responsibilities for this position include:

-Facilitate all aspects of Adult Education including program development, program expansions, staff development and training, educating the community about Adult Education, engaging in outreach and public education for projects that directly serve the organization.

-Develop and manage Adult Education budgets, policies, and procedures.
-Responsibilities include supervising, contracted instructors; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems/issues or concerns related to all aspects of Adult Education.
-Serve as liaison between Junta and New Haven Adult Education to successfully maintain Junta as a satellite Adult Education site.

 -Develop and implement strategic goals for Adult Education that are in keeping with the mission and strategic plan of Junta for Progressive Action.
-Work to effectively implement the principles of effective learning throughout the programs.
-Work with instructors and students to resolve student issues and to provide the student-centered learning experience.
-Evaluate and assess programs, processes, and procedures on an annual basis, looking for ways to build upon and improve the program and services offered.

-Utilize effective communication skills with instructors, staff, administration, outside vendors, the community, and students.

-Remain up to date on current issues in educational policy and engaging in policy and advocacy efforts at the local and state level as appropriate. Occasionally represent the organization at public forums.
-Attend meetings and training sessions as necessary.

-Serves on advisory boards for the purpose of facilitating Adult Education planning, accountability, legislation and professional development.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree and will have experience in working in non-traditional and adult education settings, especially in areas of adult education instruction and project management. The candidate must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, writing, fiscal management, relationship building, presentation and analytical skills. The successful candidate will be committed to helping students and communities achieve success. The commitments and responsibilities of this position in Adult Education require a flexible schedule. Essential qualifications include:

 

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) required
  • Knowledge about issues related to the field of adult education
  • Previous adult education instruction experience helpful
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast paced, team environment
  • Commitment to the mission, values and goals of JUNTA

 

SALARY:  Depending on experience. Excellent benefits and matching retirement plan.

JUNTA for Progressive Action (“JUNTA”) is New Haven’s oldest Latino community based organization. Its mission is to provide services, programs and advocacy that improve the social, political and economic conditions of the Latino community in Greater New Haven, while nurturing and promoting its cultural traditions as it builds bridges with other communities.  For the past thirty-seven years, JUNTA has been an advocate and direct provider of programs and services to New Haven’s Latino immigrant population and low to moderate income residents of New Haven. JUNTA offers programs in the area of Adult Education, Children’s Afterschool and Summer Programs, Cultural Awareness, Economic Development, Family Management, Immigrant Rights and Legal Advocacy.
