Mental health recovery in a residential setting

Parents’ Foundation for Transitional Living, Inc. is a private, nonprofit mental health residential community dedicated to the recovery of adults with serious and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety disorder.

Neighboring Yale University, Parents’ Foundation for Transitional Living, Inc. is located in the heart of cosmopolitan New Haven, Connecticut, a city packed with world-class architecture and alive with culture, offering residents an environment rich in arts, education and leisure opportunities. Residents access the best of care from New Haven’s finest psychiatric and medical providers, hospitals and mental health centers.

With a rehabilitative approach, our mental health residential setting provides a warm and comfortable home where residents can stabilize, learn to manage their illness, and live a better life.

Distinguishing itself from other mental health residential facilities, Parents’ Foundation for Transitional Living, Inc. is not a psychiatric treatment program, but rather a mental health residential living program focused on rebuilding one’s life in the community. The New Haven treatment community offers residents cutting edge bipolar disorder and schizophrenia treatment.

Jennifer,

Welcome to GNH Community. Members may post information that they think will be of interest to nonprofits or the people served by nonprofits. For example, you may post calendared events on the events page; non-date specific information on the blog; pictures, video or discussions in the forum. Check out the groups created by other members; this is a great place to ask specific questions. You may request to join as many groups as you wish or start a new group. The creator of a group sets the parameters for membership. If you have a question about a group, please write to the owner (the person who initiated the group). If you have questions or suggestions as to how we can make GNH Community more helpful, please let me know.

GNH Community is a free service to nonprofits funded by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.

A Place for Caregiving: LISC Strengthens Housing Stability for Home-Based Child Care Providers

Home-based child care providers are a lifeline for working families, yet they often face challenges with housing and financial stability. A new Q&A with LISC experts dives into their struggles, critical needs, and a pilot program supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help them thrive.

Living Resiliently: In the Wake of Hurricane Helene, LISC’s Sam Ruark Reflects

LISC’s new director of green initiatives is helping lead a groundbreaking effort to decarbonize the nation’s affordable housing and help low-income communities build resiliency in the face of the harmful impacts of climate change. Here, after personally weathering Hurricane Helene in the intentional “ecovillage” where he lives in North Carolina, Ruark paints a picture of what’s at stake, and how the planet and people can heal together.

Power to the Changemakers: LISC’s Tatia Ash on Capacity Building with Respect

As capacity builders, we hope to help strengthen grassroots organizations so they can effectively—and independently—drive progress in their communities. To do that, argues LISC senior program officer Tatia Ash, we must not only guide but also listen deeply, show respect, and share power.
