Description Interest
Collaboration is a term that cannot be extricated from any definition or description of Jazz Haven. Since its inception in 1996, the organization has promoted the culture of Jazz through unique collaborations with artists, organizations, schools and other entities. The skill and passion that its board members have demonstrated for the culture of jazz encourages a growing network of organizations and programs that help to promote jazz education as well as jazz as an art form for general consumption. Jazz Haven operates with a mission: JAZZ HAVEN uses jazz as a community-building vehicle to preserve, present and advance the culture of jazz, and to nurture interest and participation in the art form of jazz music in the greater New Haven Area. JAZZ HAVEN, both as a presenter and facilitator, welcomes collaboration with other non-profit groups, civic organizations and businesses in the community, thus maximizing the potential and public awareness of this truly American art form. JAZZ HAVEN is committed to the creation of a year-round jazz “scene” anchored in New Haven, through encouragement and support of jazz musicians and audiences at all levels of experience, recognition and exposure.
