Event Description

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents Thinking Through Painting: Exploring the ideas of Peter Geimer and Isabelle Graw in the Sumner McKnight Crosby Jr. Gallery, 70 Audubon Street, 2 FL, New Haven. The exhibition is curated by Leticia Galizzi and will be on view from September 30th to November 7th. A public reception will take place on October 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

In the book Thinking Through Painting (2012) Peter Geimer and Isabelle Graw reflected on the ways artistic practice and art-historical discourses give room to reflexivity to bear on painting. Using this book as a starting point, Curator Leticia Galizzi has invited a group of painters to think about their practices together, identify their own beliefs regarding painting, and also to think about how these beliefs shape the process of painting and in turn are shaped by it. The featured artists are Cat Balco, Dina Fisher, Kevin Daly, Leticia Galizzi and Marcela Florido.

Gallery hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
