Many New Haveners came out in 2016 and 2017 to support the Standing Rock Sioux in their fight against Energy Transfer Partners’ (ETP) Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL). Now we are standing in solidarity with the indigenous people and other residents of coastal Louisiana to stop another ETP project – the Bayou Bridge pipeline. (More info at link below.)
New Haven Stands with Standing Rock is joining in a global Week of Action to highlight the harm the pipeline and the dirty oil that will flow through it will cause to the fragile ecosystem of the bayous, the people who live there, and the climate. ETP has one of the worst spill records of any pipeline company – including leaks that have already happened on the Dakota Access pipeline.
And, just as Wells Fargo helped fund DAPL, it is providing millions to ETP to build the Bayou Bridge pipeline. This is yet one more reason why the City of New Haven should move its millions in operating funds out of Wells Fargo, which not only funds many dirty and unsustainable energy projects, it also has time and again cheated its own customers and was recently blocked by the Federal Reserve from expanding its business until it corrects its criminal culture – an unprecedented step that raises questions about its financial viability. It’s not in New Haven’s interest to invest in such an institution.
