Event Description

The Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS), a statewide non-profit organization, invites you to attend a free upcoming webinar on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)-formerly Food Stamps. We will be inviting representatives from the USDA, the Connecticut Department of Social Services, and other national organizations to participate as well. This will be a terrific opportunity to learn about SNAP (or a great refresher).

Connecticut, like the rest of the country, is seeing a huge increase in need as a result of the economic downturn. SNAP participation has risen over 30% in the past year. Calls to our office have been coming in from all corners of the state, and from many people who have never had to seek assistance before. It is critical that we all expand our reach and get the word out to as many eligible people as we can. This webinar will help us to reach further and brainstorm new ways to promote SNAP access.

Who should attend?
Anyone who works with lower income clients or customers will benefit from learning how to help increase awareness of SNAP. This includes: municipal social service employees, the faith community, food pantry operators, housing authority representatives, business leaders, caseworkers, outreach workers, and educators, to name a few.

Why should you attend?
Did you know that only about 65% of eligible Connecticut residents are currently participating in SNAP? That means that tens of thousands of lower income people in our state are not taking advantage of this valuable nutrition program. The average Connecticut SNAP recipient currently receives over $100 per month in benefits, which provides a tremendous increase in spending power. This workshop will help you to think about new ways to reach clients and customers to make sure that they are receiving all of the benefits that they qualify for.

Please register as soon as possible, and SEND YOUR QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE. We can tailor the presentation to address your questions.
