Event Description

“NEW HAVEN'S MOVEMENT: a Dance Showcase to End Youth Violence” @ James Hillhouse Auditorium on January 7, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Suggested donation is $5 and all proceeds of the event are donated to "Save Our Sons", an innovative mentoring program and outreach center for youth. New Haven Academy Senior and Future Fellow, Carole Richardson, coordinated this special event in collaboration with The Future Project. The Future Project is a new education initiative that challenges high school students to do what they never thought possible--to build projects that use their passions and dreams to change the world. On January 7th, 2013, the first Future Project of the year is launching and it will be a great opportunity for the entire New Haven community to come together, watch an amazing showcase of various dance groups throughout New Haven, give to a great cause, and support the hard work, dreams and inspirations of many young people who, like Carole, are passionate about ending youth violence in New Haven. Please bring all family, friends and loved ones to this special community event! NEW HAVEN'S MOVEMENT: a Dance Showcase to End Youth Violence @ James Hillhouse Auditorum, January 7th, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Laying the Cash Tracks for Community Impact

LISC CFO Christina Travers is among the impact investing leaders who contributed commentaries to a new book, The Social Justice Investor, and joined a panel discussion at today’s book launch. In her essay, “Laying the Cash Tracks,” (reprinted here) she explains the evolution of LISC’s capital markets experience—noting how discouraging Wall Street conversations eventually led to transformative, community-focused investments.

Sharing the Story of Social Justice Investing

With the launch of the new book, The Social Justice Investor, LISC’s Christina Travers reflects on the ways that CDFIs have tapped the capital markets to deepen their impact—working to upend lingering misconceptions among some investors. "Whether we are financing affordable housing, small businesses, health, safety, climate resilience, racial equity or jobs, we see financial performance and local impact as part of the same whole."

EPA Awards GRID Alternatives Solar for All Grant

LISC partner GRID Alternatives has been awarded a $249,800,000 Solar for All grant from the EPA to advance renewable and clean energy sources for affordable housing communities across the country. “The grant is an incredible boon to the movement to decarbonize homes and lower energy costs that burden millions of everyday Americans,” said Michael T. Pugh, president and CEO of LISC.
