Event Description
Emerging infections are regularly in the news. Come learn about the influence of climate—particularly temperature and precipitation—on the transmission of insect-borne diseases. Even slight elevations in temperature can increase mosquito numbers and speed up the mosquito life cycle. Southern states have reported cases of “neglected tropical diseases” such as dengue fever and chikungunya, which many people associate only with developing countries.
The Yale Peabody Museum is partnering with the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station to spread the word about the causes and prevention of these infectious diseases. Join us for an informative and engaging program for the whole family that includes crafts, puppet shows, live mosquito larvae and hands-on science.
