A powerful new documentary offers an unvarnished portrait of residents and police in Baltimore working to stem violence in their beloved city. LISC is a proud national partner of the PBS film, helping to spark attention to its life-and-death message: through collaboration between neighbors and law enforcement, and imperative investment in underserved communities, we can make communities safer and better. It’s the very work LISC supports across the country.
LISC is using a portion of its investable assets to reinforce its mission of catalyzing opportunity throughout the country. The strategy includes a new impact investment in SustainVC Impact Fund II, which finances enterprises that advance climate solutions, economic equality, health and education.
Together with NYU and sponsorship from LISC, researchers at UC Berkeley have just released new findings about how development in the New York metro area is creating “islands of exclusion” and displacing more and more longtime residents. An interactive Urban Displacement Map, a byproduct of the investigation, aims to serve as an “early warning tool” to help affordable housing advocates and policy makers protect and preserve community stability.
