Event Description

Kicking off on Wednesday, October 20th, Leadership Greater New Haven offers hands-on learning opportunities including leadership training on team management and collaboration, strategic planning, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness; plus, the sharpening of professional skills, including public speaking, personal branding, customer service, and more. The program is hosted by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and presented by Regional Water Authority, with counsel from the Leadership Advisory Council.

LGNH offers aspiring community leaders and business executives leadership training so they may serve as catalysts for change in the Greater New Haven community. Participants leave the six-session program with an insider’s view of regional connections and resources and skills to cultivate professional transformation and mastery of leadership style.

The Chamber has partnered with Cornerstones Northeast Team Building for an experiential, interactive leadership workshop on day one of the program. Team challenge activities will build inclusive team collaboration, enhance communication skills, and expand leadership skills through problem-solving techniques. All activities will be done with safety and social distancing in mind.

Each of the 5 leadership practices outlined in the best-selling book, The Leadership Challenge: How to Make Extraordinary Things Happen in Organizations, are discussed. Influencers and key decision makers in the community discuss and elaborate on the following leadership practices: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. Past speakers have included, Chief Administrative Officer of New Haven, Scott Jackson, CEO of United Way Greater New Haven, Jennifer Heath, and CEO of Biorez, Kevin Rocco.

During LGNH sessions, participants are divided into teams and assigned to solve a strategic challenge identified by companies or organizations. Through diversity, equity, and inclusion training, participants can immerse themselves by connecting with community business leaders and visiting minority-owned businesses.

Professionals interested should contact Tameika Miller at tmiller@gnhcc.com or call (203) 782-4337 for more information on registration. Registration is also available at: https://www.gnhcc.com/events/details/2021-2022-leadership-greater-new-haven-lgnh-22695. The Chamber looks forward to helping the business leaders of today access the resources necessary to be successful in the future.
