Greetings!
We'd love to invite you to support our young people’s passion and creativity at THE WORD: 4th Annual Citywide Youth Poetry Jams on Friday, April 29 and Friday, May 6, where New Haven's incredible 5th - 12th grade poets and MC's come together for two amazing nights of original spoken word performances.
The High School Poetry Jam heats up Neighborhood Music School - 100 Audubon St - on Friday, April 29 at 6pm with poets from a dozen New Haven high schools and a student-led Neighborhood Music School jazz ensemble providing funky beats.
The Middle School Poetry Jam lights up New Haven Museum - 114 Whitney Ave - on Friday, May 6 at 6pm with poets from Fair Haven, Columbus, Edgewood, Hill Central, King-Robinson, and others.
Check out our official video featuring high school performers and an inspiring New Haven Independent article about the 2015 jams.
The 2016 citywide youth poetry jams culminate multi-week spoken word residencies in New Haven schools by award-winning hip-hop poet, playwriter and educator Aaron Jafferis, writer, performer, and arts and culture curator Ifeanyi Awachie, and spoken word artist J-Sun.
Special thanks to The Institute Library, The Future Project, the Mayor’s Community Arts Grants Program, The Carolyn Foundation, New Alliance Foundation, Neighborhood Music School, New Haven Museum, New Haven Public Schools, and all the students and teachers who've brought THE WORD alive this year!
THE WORD Citywide Youth Poetry Collective aims to close Connecticut's achievement gap in education and energize our city's youth through the power of poetic expression.
We hope you can join us--and please share this special event with your friends and colleagues!
Thank you so much and hope you have a wonderful rest of your day!
