Workers, organizations and advocacy groups including Junta for Progressive Action, Unidad Latina en Acción, the New Haven Workers Association, National Employment Law Project, and Restaurant Opportunities Center, will hold a Press Conference against Discrimination and Wage Theft to support the workers with unpaid wages claims from Downtown At The Taft, Goodfellas, Sarucci Metal Finishing, Classic Carwash, and against contractors like Philip P. Esposito from East Haven, CT.
Workers will tell their stories and urge their ex-employers to pay what is owed. They will also ask government representatives to better enforce the state and national labor laws.
Neftali, Alejandro, Edgar or the several others are owed more than $ 93,000 for over 6,867 unpaid hours they worked in the last year for employers in New Haven.
Many of the New Haven workers are Latinos who work on average 60 to 75 or even more than 80 hours per week, and receive between $200 and $400 per week, a salary far below the Connecticut minimum wage.
This winter, these workers know that the economy is slow and it will be hard finding work. That is why they are joining with other workers and concerned New Haven residents to bang on empty pots in the Downtown streets of New Haven and demand an end to Wage Theft in New Haven.
