IRIS is holding a Thanksgiving Celebration for newly arrived refugees on Saturday, November 17th out of a desire to share all the good things we have with them and to host a time for refugees to gather in gratitude and fellowship.
Please join us in preparing to host an authentic Thanksgiving meal with music and activities for 150-200 refugees from all over the world. This event depends completely upon the contributions and efforts of volunteers and community groups. Below are three ways you can contribute to this event:
1) Donate food, drink, and serving items: we will gladly accept either homemade or storebought items, or help us by asking restaurants to donate food, drink, and serving items to share with our clients. Click HERE for the full list of items we need donated in order to host a Thanksgiving meal for 150-200 refugees. Ready to donate? Fill out the Google form HERE!
2) Serve on the day of the event: Ready to help with anything from decorating the parish hall, dishing up meals, running children's activities, leading adult activities, or packaging up Thanksgiving leftovers for refugees to take home? Click HERE to sign up to serve! Serve and ask your family, friends, or community group to serve refugees alongside you!
3) Entertain through music, dance, drama, etc: perform or help recruit music or other live entertainment for refugees during the event! All types of acts are welcome to contact us-- we simply want entertainment that refugees will enjoy. Singers, musicians, or other acts with an East African, Cuban, or Middle Eastern flavor would be especially wonderful! Click HERE if you or someone you know is interested in entertaining.
