Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven will hold an Applicant Information Meeting for the Habitat Homebuyers Program on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 5:30-7:30pm, at the Stetson Library Branch, located at 200 Dixwell Avenue. The purpose of the meeting is to explain how Habitat’s homeownership program works and what the eligibility requirements are. Habitat plans to rehabilitate two single-family, three-bedroom homes in Newhallville—one on Huntington Street and one on Newhall Street.
The Habitat Homebuyers Program is for first-time homebuyers only. Habitat sells its homes to partner families at no-profit, via 25-year, 0%-interest mortgages. Applicants must earn between 30-60% of the Area Median Income to be eligible and have good credit. Families selected for homeownership are required to put in 400 hours of “sweat equity” on their home and the home of another Habitat family. Pre-application materials will be available for families who are interested in applying.
Free parking is available in front of and behind the library. No pre-registration is required.
