Introduction
The CT Alliance for Drug Endangered Children, established in October of 2009, is a coalition of professionals assisting local communities to effectively and efficiently identify and protect children endangered by caregivers who produce, distribute, or use illegal drugs. The Alliance exists to serve the professional community that serves Connecticut’s drug endangered children (DEC).

A drug endangered child is identified by the alliance as a child from birth to eighteen years of age who lives in, is exposed to, or found in places where controlled substances are sold, manufactured, processed or used. Drug endangered children are at increased risk of injury or death, physical and sexual abuse, and nutritional, educational, supervisory and emotional neglect. These children are also at risk of perpetuating the cycle of drug and child abuse.

Purpose
The ultimate goal of the alliance is to help professionals break the cycle of drug and child abuse in their communities.

Training: The course will also provide an overview of the Connecticut Drug Endangered Children's Program, including the History and Evolution of the DEC Movement, Children at Risk, Understanding and Responding to the Long-Term Needs of Drug Endangered Children, The Collaborative Mindset as the Ideal Solution, explain National DEC and State DEC Alliances, Empowerment to Engage. The Drug Endangered Children Training Program was designed to provide a basic understanding of fundamental DEC concepts and to explain the vital roles National DEC and State DEC alliances play in encouraging local communities to adopt consistent response practices. This training covers only the broad fundamentals and is intended to help participants align their basic thinking about DEC concepts and establishing local DEC Teams.
