Event Description

Join Claire Broido Johnson, the Acting Program Manager of the Office of Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs at DOE, who will talk about the transition from public to private investment in residential energy efficiency.

Cost: Free – Space is limited

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed in February 2009 to support job creation, revitalize our economy and make a meaningful down payment on the nation’s energy and environmental future.Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Department of Energy received $36.7 billion in appropriations, including a total of $11.2 billion to the Office of Weatherization (Weatherization Assistance Program, State Energy Program and Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants). These funds represent the largest single investment in building energy efficiency in US history. As the Acting Program Manager of the Office of Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs and the energy efficiency advisor to Secretary Chu at the Department of Energy, Claire Johnson has been shaping the development of energy efficiency programs in the U.S. through the distribution of these funds. Her talk will focus on how the Federal government plans to leverage publi c financing into greater private investment in this sector and the selection criteria used to make these investments.

Claire Broido Johnson is the Acting Program Manager of the Office of Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs, which implements the State Energy Program. She concurrently serves as an energy efficiency advisor to Secretary Chu at the Department of Energy, reporting to Matt Rogers, Senior Advisor to the Secretary for Recovery Act Implementation. An expert in program development and renewable energy, Ms. Johnson previously served a senior advisor at Hannon Armstrong investment bank, where she was responsible for structuring energy efficiency financing and originating new renewable and energy efficiency deals. She was a co-founder of SunEdison, North America’s largest solar energy services provider, and oversaw market development, renewable energy credit portfolio management, sales, marketing, finance and operations. Prior to that, she worked as an electricity deal originator at Constellation Power Source, Enron North America and GE Capital, and as a risk management consultant at Deloitte & Touche.

Ms. Johnson holds a B.A. in Environmental Science & Public Policy from Harvard College, where she helped to create that major, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
