Bridges Healthcare, Inc., will sponsor a free community forum to discuss opioid addiction and treatment on Wednesday, May 10, 5:30 to 8:30 at the Savin Rock Conference Center.
“Let’s Change the Story,” will feature nationally-recognized addiction and psychiatric expert Dr. Petros Levounis, chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, who will present information on the addiction process and new treatments available to assist those who want to stop using opioids. Dr. Levounis has appeared on national television and is featured in numerous videos and articles on addiction.
West Haven Pharmacy will be onsite to prescribe, train and dispense naloxone, the medication used to reverse an overdose. Those who want a prescription should bring their commercial or State insurance card. The CT Dept. of Consumer Protection recently approved offsite licensing for pharmacists for this purpose, so more local residents will have the means to reverse an overdose and reduce the number of deaths from opioid overdose. West Haven recorded 21 drug overdose deaths in 2016.
