Event Description

How to Live the Artist’s Life: The Arts Council presents Author Paul Dorrell

Continuing our dedication to local artists, we are pleased to present an event at the Whitney Center’s Cultural Arts Center with Paul Dorrell, author of Living the Artist’s Life: Updated & Revised, on Tuesday, November 13th at 7 p.m. at 200 Leeder Hill Drive in Hamden, south entrance. The event is open to the public at no cost, with free parking.

Dorrell will discuss his book and conduct an abbreviated version of his career workshop, accompanied by a handout with a Q&A session. A book signing will follow his presentation. Dorell opened Leopold Gallery in 1991, and has been advancing artists’ careers on a national level ever since. Learn from his experience and come to this event to take your artistic career to the next level!

Dorell’s books address a myriad of topics, everything from how to get your work into a gallery, how to handle self-doubt. He also tells the story of his gallery's initial failures and eventual successes. Regardless of your place in the arts, you are sure to benefit from the discussion. To learn more about Dorrell and his work, go to LeopoldGallery.com.

Praise for Living the Artist's Life: Update & Revised

“The success of the book hasn’t dimmed Dorrell’s drive to help undiscovered artists get the recognition he feels they deserve.  It’s also heavy on pragmatic advice from pricing and promoting one’s work to gaining acceptance by galleries.”

-The Associated Press

“An entertaining and highly valuable guide for aspiring and working artists.”

-Murray Dessner,

Painting Instructor and Critic, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia
