On Thursday, Apr. 21, the Yale field hockey, football and women’s ice hockey teams lead Yale’s annual Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registry Drive from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Commons (168 Grove Street) in New Haven. Those who join the registry may have the opportunity to save the life of someone with a life-threatening illness. The drive is named in memory of Yale women's ice hockey player Mandi Schwartz (1988-2011), who recently passed away after battling cancer for more than two years.
Over the past two years we have added more than 1,600 people to the Be The Match® registry through our drives, setting the record for drives of this kind each year. We know of at least five life-saving matches for patients in need of transplants that have been identified through our efforts.
To join the registry, a person must be between the ages of 18 and 60, meet the health guidelines and be willing to donate to any patient in need. The donor test consists of a simple cheek swab. Individuals will become a member of the Be The Match® Registry.
