National Public Health Week Is April 6 – 12, 2015

Join the effort to make America a Healthy Nation.  This is National Public Health Week.  Each individual can have a direct impact on our health care system; learn how by visiting the National Health Week web site linked below and getting the Toolkit.  Know that good health is an important aspect of personal wealth.  Learn how you can maintain good health and help your loved ones to be healthy.

April is also National Organ Donation Month.  A single complete donor can save the lives of 8 people and enhance the quality of life for dozens more.  Nationally, there are more than123K people waiting for organ transplants; in CT, as of March 27, 2015, there were 1,128 people waiting for a kidney transplant, and another 20 who are waiting for a combined kidney and pancreas transplant. A transplant greatly enhances the quality of life (by removing people from dialysis) and reducing the cost of health care in the long term.

There was also a Historic eight-person kidney transplant at Yale this year.  Read about that here: http://goo.gl/Lo86lj

Right now, the U.S. spends MORE and gets LESS when it comes to health care and public health outcomes. This is the defining challenge of our generation – a challenge that we, the public health community, are uniquely positioned to help overcome.

That’s why, during National Public Health Week 2015, the public health community is rallying around a goal of making the U.S. the Healthiest Nation in One Generation — by 2030.

In April, we’ll create a new groundswell of support for the changes that must be made within our health system to realize this goal.

Get started here by accessing all the tools and tips you'll need for having a successful National Public Health Week 2015!
