Description Interest
Connecticut Humanities creates opportunities to think, learn and understand more about ourselves, our communities and our state. We believe this work is essential to a democratic society, to the well-being of the people, and to the economic vitality of Connecticut.

We bring together people of different viewpoints, ages and backgrounds to learn from and about each other, discuss issues of vital concern, explore new ideas and historical perspectives, and experience the cultural richness around them. We also serve as an advocate for, partner of, and grant-maker to Connecticut organizations that share our vision.

Brian,

Welcome to GNH Community, glad to have you join us. Members may post information that they think will be of interest to nonprofits, civic organizations, the people they serve or the general public. You may post calendared events on the events page, non-date specific information on the blog, pictures or video. For profit members may not solicit business or advertise on this website.

Your chances of connecting with other members greatly increases if you include a photo or logo on your profile, if you include your job title and\or if you "like" or comment on the post of members. Events are also noticed more often if you include a picture or logo.
Check out the groups created by other members; this is a great place to meet people that share your interest and to ask questions. You may request to join as many groups as you wish or start a new group. The creator of a group sets the parameters for membership. If you have a question about a group, please write to the owner (the person who initiated the group).

If you have questions or suggestions as to how we can make GNH Community more useful please let me know.

GNH Community is funded by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.

“A Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity”: Q+A with LISC’s New CEO Michael T. Pugh

As Michael T. Pugh, formerly president and CEO of Carver Federal Savings Bank, takes the helm of LISC, we caught up with him to talk about what inspired him to step into his new role, what motivates him as a leader and community development practitioner, and what he hopes to help LISC accomplish in the years to come.

How JPMorgan Chase Partners with LISC Detroit and Others to Help the City Flourish

An article in Fortune highlights a $200 million investment from JPMorgan Chase to support small business and local community development funds. The funding has helped LISC Detroit, the Entrepreneurs of Color Fund (EOCF) and the Detroit Housing Fund create economic opportunities for thousands of Detroit residents. LISC senior vice president Tahirih Ziegler is quoted on the imperative of investing in affordable housing to protect against displacement in Detroit’s vulnerable communities.

New Markets Support Company Announces New Name: Broadstreet

Since its founding in 2004, the New Markets Support Company has managed LISC's federal New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation—currently the largest in the country at $1.2 billion.
