Yale School of Music’s Janna Baty stars in Mark Camphouse’s gorgeous Symphony from Ivy Green. In setting Helen Keller’s lyrical writings to music, this powerful work explores the human capacity to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

Widely recognized as one of the most important Mexican composers of his generation, Arturo Márquez wrote Danzón No. 2 to celebrate his country’s rich heritage of dance. This ever-popular work, which slowly builds to an exhilarating finale, never fails to electrify audiences.

William Grant Still’s three-movement From the Delta paints a vivid portrait of Mississippi delta life. Over the course of the piece, listeners will hear a chain gang singing its way through hard labor, an expressive spiritual, and a friendly gathering’s lively dance.

SPECIAL GUESTS: John Winthrop Middle School 8^th Grade Band (Deep River, CT), Laura Traver, Director, joins the Yale Concert Band for a performance of Ed Huckeby’s By the Rivers of Babylon, an exciting blend of dynamic rhythms and beautiful melody.
