Wallingford Public Library, 200 North Main Street, Wallingford, invites the public to the 134th annual meeting of the Wallingford Public Library Association featuring author Elizabeth Mitchell as the guest speaker on Monday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. The evening will begin with light refreshment and a brief business meeting followed by Ms. Mitchell’s presentation and book signing.
Elizabeth Mitchell, a Wallingford native, is a journalist and the author of Liberty’s Torch: The Great Adventure to Build the Statue of Liberty, (Grove/Atlantic Monthly Press, July 2014). She is also the author of two other works of nonfiction Three Strides Before the Wire: The Dark and Beautiful World of Horse Racing and W.: Revenge of the Bush Dynasty. In addition her freelance writing has appeared in such publications as the Wall Street Journal, New York, The New York Observer, Chicago Tribune, Details, GQ, Condé Nast Traveler, O, Glamour, and The Nation. She is the co-founder of ReadThis, a volunteer group that delivers books where needed, including to troops abroad, children living in poverty, and public schools with no library.
As it celebrates its 134th year, the Wallingford Public Library continues its quest to inspire, enrich, and inform our community. “Public library service has changed considerably over time, but our commitment to Wallingford has not wavered. We continue to develop our collections, programs, and facilities, staying abreast of relevant technologies to deliver quality services where and when they are needed,” said library director Jane Fisher.
The Wallingford Public Library is an association library and membership is open to anyone for a nominal annual contribution. Association members are eligible to vote at the library’s annual meeting.
