Duo Dickinson, architect and author, explores the short-lived and volatile breaks from Modernist dominance in architectural expression spawned by the mid-20th century cultural zeitgeist in his presentation: Dead Styles Standing – half-lifed styles born in the cultrual revolution of the ‘60s as seen in New Haven. The social upheavals of the ‘60s and ‘70s played out in built form to create Brutalism, Post-Modernism and Solar Design. All had explosively inspired beginnings and whimpering, apologetic endings. New Haven was, as usual, the laboratory for those brief mutations.
This event is free and open to the public. Please pre-register by calling NHPT at (203) 562-5919 or by emailing info@nhpt.org .
