JCC Theaterworks is seeking union and non-union actors local to the New Haven area for a workshop of the play "He Who Laughs", by Ian Cohen, a modern-day retelling of the Biblical story of the sacrifice of Isaac, and directed by Reuven Russell. The show will run December 14-16 at the Off-Broadway Theater in downtown New Haven. Rehearsals will be held on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays beginning October 27. Compensation: $500. Actors must have their own lodging in the area or be able to provide their own transportation to/from New Haven.
Zach Wells, M, 17: Self-involved. No friends from school. Troubled by migraines. Tries hard to be funny. Sarcastic sense of humor. Though nice looking, he’s a bit soft and a little overweight. Devout. Jealous of his father’s relationship with God.
Sam Kessler, M, 60s: Alfred Wells’ right-hand man. Kind. Plain-spoken. Honest.
Alfred Wells, M, 60s-70s: A once-strong, elderly man. Owns his own trucking company. Passionately devout. Has a personal and real relationship with God.
Sheila Wells, F, 60-75: A beautiful woman and a good person; a good person; avoids painful truths, harbors secrets; nervous and fearful; well-mannered; a believer.
The Girl with the Backpack, W, 18-30: A beautiful young woman. Volatile. Possibly a sociopath. As kind as she is unkind.
