Event Description

Florida-based poet and educator Brendan Walsh brings his summer poetry tour to The Poetry Institute in New Haven, CT. Join him and The Institute Library for an evening of stirring literary work and performance!

Living Things: The Great American Poetry Crawl, sponsored by Sutra Press, is harnessing the fellowship of writing by connecting to independent literary communities up and down the East Coast. This reading tour stretches from Florida to Rhode Island; Walsh is also conducting interviews with local poets in each city, creating a video series that illustrates the reciprocal relationship between poetry and place.

On the third Thursday of each month, New Haven's Poetry Institute celebrates an eclectic mix of poetic voices. All members of the public are invited to bring something to share for the open mic while enjoying fellowship and refreshments in a casual setting. Open mic sign-up begins at 6:30pm; reading begins at 7:00pm.

Join Brendan and The Poetry Institute for an immersive reading in exploration of the joy, contradiction, heartache and wonder of being! This event is free and open to the public; follow on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/2142874789164919/

A Letter to the White House Announces $11 Million Vaccine Access Fund

In a letter to the Biden-Harris Administration, which has called for corporate America to help in the fight to end the pandemic, the CEOs of Uber, Paypal, Walgreens and LISC announced a new Vaccine Access Fund that will connect people with free rides to COVID-19 vaccine sites. LISC will administer the fund, helping close the gap for thousands of people, many of them seniors and others living in under-resourced communities, who have not been vaccinated yet because of lack of transportation.

Give a Ride, Close a Gap

In a blog describing the new $11 million Vaccine Access Fund, a partnership of LISC, Uber, Paypal and Walgreens, LISC's President & CEO Lisa L. Glover details how the fund tackles more than the transportation gap that is keeping tens of thousands of Americans from accessing COVID-19 vaccines. "The fund offers a practical solution to an immediate problem," writes Glover. "But this is absolutely part of our larger efforts to address equity as well."

LISC, Uber, PayPal and Walgreens Introduce Vaccine Access Fund

LISC, PayPal, Uber and Walgreens have announced the launch of their new Vaccine Access Fund, which allows customers to donate to vaccine access efforts to help connect people without transportation to COVID-19 vaccination sites, particularly those in underserved communities. Customers can donate to the Vaccine Access Fund directly through the Uber app using a new donate feature supported by PayPal Giving Fund.
