New Haven has 1 of the lowest rental vacancy rates in the country while simultaneously being impacted by a boom of high end, luxury apartment buildings resulting in a limited number of quality, affordable rental units for working families in the City.  According to Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s “How Home Affects Health”, there is a strong and growing evidence base linking our homes to our health. Our neighborhood’s location can make it easier or harder to get a quality education and earn living wages, to afford to eat nutritious food, and to enjoy active lifestyles. 

Many of you are already doing important work in this area. Please join Dwight Hall at Yale Center for Public Service and Social Justice,  InnovateHealth Yale, the Office of Public Health Practice at Yale School of Public Health, and Tsai CITY for a Community Public Health Night: Affordable Housing in the Elm City to learn about and start to design innovations in this space.

You’ll be hearing from local non-profits and start-ups who are working to change these statistics and will also have an ideation session for everyone to brainstorm and collaborate on solutions.

At the end of the night, a winning group will be selected to receive a prize!
