The event, which took place on September 15-16, brought together more than 50 leaders who currently organize open streets programs or are interested in bringing the...

The State of Our Industry

The National Alliance of Community Economic Development Associations (NACEDA) has launched a three-year assessment of the health of the community development field—a critical undertaking for our industry if we want to get the right resources to where they are most needed. Shelterforce, along with the rest of us, is tracking the project, and spoke to LISC’s Mark Kudlowitz for a recent article highlighting new information about the financial plight of community-based development organizations.

Getting Ahead in America Doesn’t Have to Be So Hard

Seemingly intractable issues like racial and gender wage inequities and the benefits cliff keep people mired in poverty in America. But these are systemic failures, not facts of nature, and a national financial inclusion strategy that supports investments in economic empowerment, could go a long way toward closing our country’s unconscionable wealth gaps.

LISC Names Miranda L. Jones to Lead ‘People and Culture’ Work

Jones is a seasoned leader who will oversee LISC’s talent development and traditional human resources functions as well as lead internal strategies that promote diversity and inclusion. “Especially at an organization like LISC, where people are so passionate about justice, it is critical that we nurture a culture of talent and innovation, where creative ideas can become impactful programs and help build a more equitable, broadly shared prosperity throughout the country,” she said.
